Conrad Black Responds to the OSC's Decision Against Him
by Conrad Black https://www.conradmblack.com/1086/conrad-black-responds-to-the-osc-decision-against My response to the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) decision: I'm out of the country and have only received a summary on my iPhone. It was never a material issue, since, as I testified, no one could pay me enough to be a director or officer of a public company in that jurisdiction. The OSC destroyed Hollinger Inc. and vaporized the shareholders' interest and enriched a gang of charlatan corporate activists when it denied our effort to privatize it in 2005. On that occasion, it ignored the advice of its own staff and followed the instructions of Richard Breeden who subsequently made the greatest libel settlement in Canadian history in my favour over the allegations that led to all this almost entirely spurious legal activity. The Commission did not come to this latest issue with clean hands, but its decision was probably, from the sketchy description I have, as enlightened as anyone could expect from the OSC. The hearing was very courteously conducted, but it all shows again why the OSC must not become a national securities regulator. The decision is at least welcome as the comparatively inoffensive end of more than 11 years of persecution. © 2025 Conrad Black |
